This article presents the principles of a Content and Language Integrated Learning approach at English learning process as effective tool for students in higher schools of Kazakhstan. The purpose of this paper is to search the working hypothesis of educational CLIL approach and examine the impact of 4Cs principles (Content, Cognition, Communication. and Culture) to overcome practical language barrier of students of non-linguistic specialties. Successful Content and Language Integrated Learning requires teachers to involve students into effective learning, presenting the teaching objectives, and the learning results. CLIL involves teaching methodologies, language teaching and presents new challenges in teaching and learning either teachers or learners. This study scrutinizes the theoretical and practical materials of CLIL approach founded on Coyle research (2005). The greatest objection for CLIL teachers is to prepare materials and assignments which are linguistically affordable whilst being cognitively demanding. Authors offer practical activities to verify the effectiveness of “4Cs” aspects: Quick-Write, Think-Pair-Share, Mind Map, Two Stars and a Wish.  These activities help students to get information on specific topics, engage them to study the professional fields and subfields of specialty. ‘New’ or ‘Old’ Religions: Changing Religious Policy in the Central Highlands, Vietnam

Over the last 30 years, Vietnam has dramatically changed its economic system from centralization, bureaucracy, and subsidy to a socialist-oriented market. While economic policy has opened doors, policy for “new” religions still shifts depending on background and situation. As a consequence, in the 2000s, many protests and conflicts took place throughout the Central Highlands. Research reports point to migration, land conflict and the impeding development of ‘new’ religions as causes. This paper examines the religious policy of the Vietnamese government in the Central Highlands. Particularly, the authors focus on the concept of ‘new’ religions. For the Vietnamese government, the emergence of new religions creates a significant misunderstanding that must be addressed. This misunderstanding fails to create trust between the ethnic people and the State. Rather, it creates additional conflict when the State fails to realise and act upon the positive influence of new religions. Pages 13 to 24

This paper aims to explore the contributions of dynamic capabilities and organisational culture in competitive advantage and performance of agriculture cooperatives in Indonesia and China. This study used a structural equation model (PLS-SEM) and SPSS to explore a theoretical model which links dynamic capabilities, organisational culture and competitive advantage and performance. Empirical evidence is provided via simple random sampling of 201 agricultural cooperatives in China and 241 in Indonesia. This study found that the Chinese cooperatives contribute a significant and positive effect to their competitive advantage and performance. On the other hand, Indonesian dynamic capabilities and organisational culture provided positive effects solely on competitive advantage. There is not positive impact on performance. Technology strategies have attracted serious research attention in the recent past. In this paper, an attempt is made to review the status of the literature as it relates to technology strategies. A literature classification scheme is suggested. A total of 66 articles from refereed journals and international conferences are classified into content (technological capabilities, literature survey and performance measurement) as well as issues to do with process application. The methodology used to survey and study the relevant literature focuses on conceptual, descriptive, empirical, exploratory cross-sectional and exploratory longitudinal approaches. The purpose of this study is to produce collaborative learning materials based on QR Code to facilitate learning.  Which can be used for independent learning.  The methodology used is one of research and development.  The product testing phase begins with testing material, media and learning design experts.  Subsequently, the product was tested with a number of students, namely three students for a one to one evaluation, eight students for small group evaluation, and twenty for field evaluation.  The result of this study showed the value of material, media and learning design experts was very good.  Average results for the individual test was 3.57 and means the product was considered very good. The small group trial was 3.47 which is also seen as very good, and at for the field test 4.21 was similarly considered very good.  From this it was concluded that collaborative media learning materials can be effective but there is greater improvement required in line with expert and user advice. Do SMES Have to Build a Para-social Relationship on Social Media?

It is necessary for SMEs to build long-term relationships with customers in an effort respond to their expectations in a timely way. The present study examines the effectiveness of a para-social relationship between a handmade shoe enterprise and social media. Data was collected through an explanatory survey. Respondents were Instagram followers of the handmade shoe enterprise in question. These respondents were chosen using an accidental sampling technique. Data analysis shows that a para-social relationship is one factor worthy of consideration in creating relationships between SMEs and customers via social media such as Instagram. It is concluded that SMEs can build effective para-social relationships with customers in order to build efficacy and trust. Pages 99 to 104

Gifted learners present a unique challenge for elementary teachers by virtue of their salient characteristics. By definition they are advanced in intellectual and linguistic abilities. Experts in the fields of gifted education and reading identify gifted and talented readers as students who read and comprehend text beyond their chronological grade placement as measured on a standardized reading test or who have the potential for high reading performance. The authors of this article suggest Grammar Translation Method (GMT) for teaching Malaysian Gifted Learners in reading Arabic text. This article highlights theories of Multiple Intelligences (MI) and academic needs for all gifted learners. Gifted readers read easily and voraciously and with amazing speed and incredible comprehension can comprehend the text that they read. They also are passionate about what they read. For them, reading is not the mere process of translating symbols into meanings but an intense need to explore, investigate, fantasize and make connections with concepts and ideas. However, they need teachers to guide them and this necessitates that they understand the potential advantages for gifted learners when learning language. Apart from that, this article also mentions the different between gifted learners and other learners in understanding the target language. Impact of Perception of Organizational Politics (POP) on Counterproductive Work Behaviour (CWB) and Moderating Role of Islamic Work Ethics among Higher Education Sector of Pakistan

A large number of research scholars have contributed to the body of knowledge of counterproductive work behaviour (CWB) by categorizing aggression, violence, sabotage, abusive behaviour, absenteeism and deviance. There are various predictors identified by a number of studies, conducted in diverse contexts and the current study entails empirical investigation of the influence of this political phenomenon on CWB in the higher education sector of Pakistan. This political phenomenon instigates various negative behavioural outcomes among employees of organizations including turnover, anxiety, absenteeism and counterproductive work behaviour. This study intends to determine the level of perception of organizational politics (POP) among employees of the higher education sector of Pakistan and negative behavioural outcomes that affect organizational goals and objectives. The study was conducted on employees of public sector universities of Pakistan and collected data was analyzed through utilization of SMART-PLS. The study found that perception of organizational politics significantly influences the CWB but that while Islamic work ethics were found to be negatively associated with CWB, they remained insignificant.  Further the moderating role of IWE was not observed between POP and CWB. In the context of social media marketing activities, customer engagement becomes the main goal. Many businesses use social media marketing to attract customers. This study examined customer equity and purchase intention through social media marketing activities in the fashion industry among Generation Y.  The research employed a cross-sectional design and quantitative method was utilized. The chosen platform in collecting the data was Google form.  The data was imported into Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS) and Smart-PLS for further analyses. The findings of this study revealed that social media marketing activities have a positive and significant effect on brand personality, brand equity and relationship equity. Further, it was revealed that brand personality, brand equity and relationship equity have a positive and significant effect on purchase intention. The findings of this study can help business owners understand the importance of brand personality, brand equity and relationship equity in influencing purchase intention. A well-managed transportation system will definitely offer various advantages to a society and country as it will drive towards sustainable transportation. A good transportation system also will significantly establish a good social relationship by facilitating communication between urban and rural populations. In addition, by permitting people to deliver services from one place to another, it will reduce pollution which benefits the public financially and timely. This study aims to identify how a rural transportation road network is significant in poverty eradication in the rural area of East Cost Sabah. In these remote areas, a transportation system plays a significant role in a difficult area to access as inadequate road network systems impact on potential future development. Additionally, this study will also identify the complicated logistics required, typically due to the topography of the earth. This is an empirical study which employed a questionnaire research tool in a remote community on the East Coast of Sabah. The data was analysed using SPSS 23 to answer the study objectives and to analyse significant results.  Effectiveness of Distance Education on Sustainability from Learners’ Perspective

Education for Sustainable Development has become an important issue in transforming societal perception about sustainability in the Malaysian higher education scenario. In contending with the challenges posed by the 4th Industrial Revolution, distance education has been acknowledged as a mechanism through which sustainable development can be achieved via digital technology. However, not much importance has been given to investigating the ways in which distance education can be effective in instilling sustainability among learners and the barriers which hinder it. Therefore, this study has been conducted to explore the perceived effectiveness of distance education and the barriers towards sustainability among Malaysian distance learners. A total of 72 participants were interviewed by the researcher and the data obtained was transcribed into meaningful themes for analysis. A wide spectrum of factors was found to have contributed positively towards the effectiveness of distance education in nurturing sustainability despite the barriers encountered by learners. The researchers are confident that some of the findings may contribute to the building blocks of knowledge in the respective areas of study. This study may provide the much needed motivation to policy-makers and university administrators in empowering distance education programmes so that a larger student population may be reached beyond national and international borders. This study will surely benefit other stakeholders of distance education programmes and higher education institutions who are concerned about the sustainability of higher education and future development. Financial Performance Evaluation of General Insurance Firms in Malaysia Via Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA)

Increasing liberalization in the insurance industry has challenged insurance regulatory authorities to monitor the financial strength of Malaysian insurance companies. The incompetence faced by the insurance industry is a matter of particular concern and the identification of troubled insurers has become the main objective of regulatory research. Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has mandated the use of risk-based capital (RBC) for the insurance industry with the objective to provide an early warning system on potential deterioration in capital adequacy level and ensure continuous solvency and smooth running of an insurer's business operations. BNM has initiated a method for measuring RBC known as the capital adequacy ratio (CAR) and its adoption is compulsory for all insurance companies. CAR measures the adequacy of the capital available in the insurance and insurer shareholder funds to support the total capital required. Grey relational analysis (GRA) theory is useful to provide solutions in a system where information is incomplete and data is not normally distributed. GRA is suitable for the evaluation of a company’s financial performance. This study evaluates the financial performance and capital adequacy ratio of Malaysian general insurance firms in the period 2011-2015.  Results of this study show that a firm is categorized as solvent if the solvency margin results, using the CAR method, indicate that the financial position of the company is in a stable state. Entrepreneurship education today plays an important role in supporting the Indonesian government program to alleviate poverty and unemployment. As the future generation that will lead the nation, high school students are required to demonstrate entrepreneurial skill as provision for their future lives. Global competitiveness in the entrepreneurship field forces students to master English to become skilled entrepreneurs in both the national and international sphere. This research aims at the conceptualization of an ESP learning design for vocational high school students at SMK PGRI 20 Jakarta that will enhance their entrepreneurial skill. The participants of this research were 40 students in the twelfth grade Automotive 2 class. The research method carried out four key stages in an ESP learning design: needs analysis, course (and syllabus) design, materials selection (and production), as well as teaching and learning evaluation. As a contribution to student success in learning ESP, a thorough needs analysis was conducted. Questionnaires were distributed to gather data about student language needs which were found to include three significant aspects: Present Situation Analysis (PSA), Learning Situation Analysis (LSA) and Target Situation Analysis (TSA). The research results reveal that student entrepreneurial skill can be enhanced through an ESP-based learning design with a learner-centred syllabus as its main focus. Pages 198 to 208

E-commerce has changed conventional sale of goods through global access in an online marketplace. The borderless online marketplace provides a worldwide platform for sale of goods to consumers. A new group of tech-savvy consumers, also known as e-consumers has emerged and grown rapidly in recent years because e-commerce goods are cheaper, more accessible and convenient and offer greater variety and quality. E-commerce transactions for sale of goods involve many parties, among others the platform provider, the seller (either manufacturer, intermediary, wholesaler or retailer), the internet provider, the financial service provider that provides the transfer of money using data, the website, the logistics provider, the shipping company, the delivering company and the consumer as buyer at the end of the transaction. In some circumstances, consumers can even be the seller in e-commerce. It is essential to determine the rights and liabilities of the contracting parties in an e-commerce contract which raises the issue of privacy of contract and other related contract law issues. The nature and the complexity of e-commerce consumer contracts for sale of goods trigger many legal issues; from forming of the contract to the conclusion of the contract. This paper focuses on the emerging issue of e-commerce contract contractual rights and obligations for sale of goods. As pure doctrinal legal research which employs the content analysis method, this paper aims to map out the connection among the parties both directly and indirectly involved in the contract. This paper also seeks to identify and analyse the relationship of various parties involved in e-commerce consumer contracts for sale of goods. The relationship between the parties in an e-commerce contract, with regard to their rights and liabilities in the sale of goods, was examined and reviewed with the aim to ascertain coherence with the privacy of contract doctrine. The learning process of a hybrid learning model is performed as a process of acquiring knowledge and skills by integrating the system digitally. This is where students become the main part in the learning process as lecturers only facilitate by providing all forms of learning materials and resources in order to support the activities of this learning model. The 4.0 industry revolution has brought people's lives to the mastery of technology and the learning process has shifted according to its era, namely by combining a learning model between traditional and modern methods based on technology that demands students to think critically, creatively and independently. This allows students to have the ability to have higher order thinking skills to face the era of revolution 4.0 in the future. In order to support the process of hybrid learning, the Learning Management System (LMS) was used. This system is used to manage all online learning activities by distributing learning materials and collaboration between lecturers and students which is the most important part of hybrid learning. To measure the satisfaction of users, LMS and existing systems must be presented as best as possible, as user satisfaction is part of the measuring instrument to determine the success of the existing system. Usability is the level of quality of a good system where users can assess functionality effectively and efficiently. Results from the questionnaire obtained measured how easy the use of LMS that consist easy to learn, Efficient on use, easy Remember, low error rates and user satisfaction. Based on the results of the overall study (901 sample), the LMS used today, has an average rate of overall system 84.36%. Pages 224 to 235




Strategic Management Practices in the Public Sector in Malaysia: Issues and Challenges

This article explains the current practices of strategic management in the public sector in Malaysia, specifically the federal agencies level from the lens of its leadership and practitioners. Grounded by a theoretical framework, lessons learned and experiences of the informants, the article enlightens real problems and dilemmas behind the dynamism of the strategic management practices among public managers. Applying thematic analysis in the research issues such as capacity and capability of the public managers, inter-division silos, contrast of audit report and real practice and unprecedented challenges in public policy and its leadership are recognised among the factors that contributed to the needs of the new model of strategic management in the public sector. It recommends to re-conceptualise the view toward challenges in strategy-making, particularly in developing an all-inclusive strategic plan for federal agencies or ministries. It also proposes to synchronise strategic planning, scenario planning, performance measurement, risk assessment and budgeting strategies to be integrated more thoroughly as a comprehensive instructional model in strategy formulation of the agencies. A Novel New Product Development Hybrid Framework

In the current New Product Development (NPD) literature, NPD constructs from process and management perspective are being viewed separately. This paper aims to advance the state of NPD literature and empirical understanding of the determinants for NPD success via the development of NPD process and management hybrid determinants’ framework. As such, five NPD process constructs and 101 NPD process attributes are identified from the literature review. These attributes and constructs are formulated into a survey questionnaire which was answered by 186 respondents from R&D based companies within Malaysia. Exploratory Factor analysis was applied as data reduction tool to screen and group inter-correlated NPD process attributes with the ultimate aim to extract the representatives NPD Management constructs. Seven NPD Management constructs are extracted via Factor Analysis. Based on NPD Evolutionary Theory, attributes that commonly shared between NPD process and management constructs are identified and grouped together to form the NPD hybrid framework. The formation of NPD Process and NPD Management Hybrid Framework suggests that a comprehensive NPD Process and NPD Management integration theory exist with the potential to describe a large part of NPD phenomena within the context of R&D based companies in Malaysia. In term of novelty, the hybrid framework allows characterizing commonalities of attributes across the different stages of NPD process and various levels of NPD management. Impulse buying is one way that creates faster sales, therefore, MINISO needs to make it a business strategy, especially for a new brand circulating in a country. One of the ways the impulse buying occurs is through visual merchandising. MINISO is a brand based in Japan that is currently expanding its market into Indonesia by establishing its outlets. The purpose of this research is to analyze and influence visual merchandising towards the impulse buying at the MINISO store at Mall Artha Gading. This research also aims at discovering the determining factor of visual merchandising that really impacts the impulse buying at MINISO store at Mall Artha Gading. This research uses a quantitative approach in the form of a questionnaire which was distributed to 100 respondents. A respondent sample used in this research involved a respondent who visited and purchased impulsively at MINISO store at Mall Artha Gading. Sample collections were conducted by a purposive sampling technique. The research model was tested by a multiple regression analysis. The result of this research shows that visual merchandising has a significant impact toward impulse buying and the determining factor that provides the strongest impact from the visual merchandising is the store interior design and the store layout toward the impulse buying at MINISO store at Mall Artha Gading. This study focuses on analyzing the effect of experiential marketing in establishing Electronic Word of Mouth at Santhai Restaurant at Kota Kasablanka. Santhai. Modern Thai Canteen Restaurant is a modern Thai Restaurant that utilizes tropical vibes and is located at Mall Kota Kasablanka, Jakarta. The development of internet, especially the World Wide Web that is widely available leads anyone to share their unique and memorable experiences on the internet. Considerable amounts of research have examined the experiential marketing before, but the research on its effect towards electronic word of mouth on online opinion platforms have yet to be explored further. This research used quantitative approach, with a questionnaire as the research instrument. The sample respondents of this research are people who have visited Santhai Modern Restaurant and did a posting about the restaurant in their online opinion platform. This research data was collected using non-probability sampling with purposive techniques using Pearson’s Correlation and Linear Regression. Comparative Study on Brand Equity of Fast Food Restaurants in Indonesia.

Brand equity is very important in the increasingly fierce market competition, especially for similar products to allow businesses to survive. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative study on the brand equity of three leading retail fast food outlets in Indonesia; Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald’s and Burger King. This study uses a quantitative study approach through surveys using the one sample and a three-object technique. The results of this study indicate that (1) McDonald’s has the highest brand equity, sitting above Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King respectively. (2) Brand Awareness is the leading dominant factor in forming Brand Equity in the fast food restaurant industry. (3) The length of a brand’s operation is insignificant compared with the strength of brand equity of a fast food restaurant. Pages 292 to 302




Integrated Report Content Elements Effecting Value Relevance of Publicly Listed Companies in Malaysia

The aim of this study is twofold. Firstly, to examine the effect of voluntary disclosure of eight integrated report content elements on the value relevance of Malaysian companies’ corporate information. Secondly, to investigate differences in the value relevance of corporate information in pre and post-issuance periods of the Integrated Reporting (IR) Framework. Annual reports of 603 companies listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia for the years 2012 and 2015 were examined. The results show a significant difference in the value relevance between the pre and post-issuance periods of the IR Framework. Nevertheless, the level of voluntary disclosure of the information related to the eight IR content elements does not significantly influence the value relevance of the corporate information of the companies. This study contributes to the investigation of value relevance concerning the IR content elements in developing countries. Pages 303 to 318




Living Tourism and Tolerance Tourism of a Multicultural Society in Lasem, Rembang, Central Java

Tolerance tourism can be defined as the activities of character education to observe, to explore, and to learn the tolerance value in Lasem’s daily life. The object is living tourism, which is where the tourists can see and directly experience the historical relationships in the society of Lasem, Rembang. Historical tourism occurs through sightseeing and this is now promoted in Lasem, which then becomes one of the main elements of tourism in Rembang. The cultural heritages that can be found here include small Chinese buildings, old Chinese houses, a batik village, and Islamic boarding schools, which mostly have Chinese architecture, altogether reflecting the diversity of this area. Possible issues which frequently emerge in relation to this sort of tourism are 1) How does the life of diversity based on cultural values in a multicultural society play out in Rembang?; and 2) What sort of role does the concept of living tourism in Lasem plays as an aspect of tolerance tourism? A qualitative and cultural research method was used to investigate these issues. The result of this research is, firstly, that the life of diversity in Lasem develops harmoniously with the local cultural values,  as reflected in the variety of social activities, economic activity, and the interactions that take place between Javanese, Chinese, and Arab ethnic peoples. Second, there is a strong community of cultural heritage guards who care deeply about the problem of cultural values and the life of diversity in Lasem. Third, the concept of living tourism in Lasem is obvious in the batik industry of Lasem, the life in “Little China”, and in the daily social interactions and informal meetings, which illustrate the harmonious life and attractive tolerance of Lasem. In this respect daily life in Lasem can be seen as a model of living tourism, and used to promote a multicultural society and lifestyle diversity, suggesting that the concept of living tourism deserves to be supported and preserved through a variety of means, including government policies. Innovation portfolio management (IPM) decision-making capability has become one of the most important organisational competencies to survive and be sustained in the hyper-competitive market of the telecommunications equipment industry. As Telecommunication 4.0 brings up new challenges and complexities created by open innovation and integrated hardware and software, there is a necessity to further demonstrate how organisations leverage networking with partners and exploit internal organisational structural flexibility to fully gain IPM decision-making quality and organisational agility. This study aims to explore how IPM decision-making quality and organisational agility are influenced by a business intelligence system with  the capability of providing profound market knowledge and orchestrating the organisations’ networking capabilities in leveraging external capabilities with internal factors embedded in a nimble organisational structure that subsequently influences decision-making accuracy. Furthermore, the relationship of antecedents—a business intelligence system, networking capability, and nimble organisational structure—is elaborated in our conceptual research model. Exploratory case studies with four telecommunication equipment companies in Indonesia and a literature review are used to examine the relationship between IPM decision-making quality antecedents. Deriving from information processing theory, dynamic capability, and resource-based theory, the originality of this study lies in how organisations exploit not only internal resources and flexible organisational structure, but also in how it accesses, configures, and leverages external network resources embedded in business partners to come up with full access to IPM decision-making quality in an open innovation era.
